Dear student, a. There are a large number of industrial regions in India. b. We may give example of Bangalore-Tamil Nadu region, Mumbai-Pune region. c. The rise of Industrial clusters are influenced by availability of raw material, labour, capital, power and market, etc. Hence, manufacturing activity tends to locate at the most appropriate place where all the factors of industrial location are either available or can be arranged at lower cost. d.We may give example of Industrial hubs like Gujarat, Mumbai or Iron and steel industry in Jamshedpur located near iron ores, located in proximity to market,s etc. e. Among the factors influencing location of an industry, close proximity to raw material availability of regular supply of cheap raw material are of utmost significance. f. Therefore, industries are set up close to or in the regions where raw material is available in plenty. This speaks for the localization of jute industry in West Bengal, Sugar industry in U.P and concentration of heavy industries in the states of Chattisgarh and West Bengal. e If the raw material is heavy and of small value, the industries are set up in the regions of raw material. Iron smelting, brick making, cement manufacturing are best examples. g. Iron and Steel Plants at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Rourkela (Orissa), Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) and Durgapur (West Bengal) have been set up near the sources of raw material i.e., Iron ore. h. Cotton textile industry rapidly expanded in Gujarat and Mumbai because of its locational advantages and easy availabilty of raw material,. i. It is equally important to ensure easy transportation of raw material and of finished products to the market. j. Fvaourable climatic condition also influences the location of an industry. k. Availabilty of labour, favorable government policies, proximity to market are other guiding factors. Regards
