what are adhesive and cohesive properties in apoplast pathways?

Adhesive and cohesion are the two important properties of water which help in the movement of water .Adhesion is the attraction of water towards a solid material such as a cell wall and cohesion is the hydrogen bonding in water which leads to mutual attraction between molecules. Because of these properties, water gains high tensile strength. Both these properties of water allow some particles of water to move through the apoplastic pathway, which is a path through cell walls and intracellular spaces. In this pathway the adjacent cell walls are continuous, except at the casparian strips of the endodermis. This pathway involves the movement of water through the adjacent cell walls of the epidermis and cortex with out letting the water enter the cytoplasm. The movement of water is stopped at the casparian strips of the root endodermis.
