What are quartz ???

Quartz are compound made up of Si and O having molecular formula SiO2. Actually the single molecule has formula SiO4 , but each of the 4 oxygen atoms is linked to another silicon atom in a neighbouring molecule, so the the overall formula of quartz is SiO2.
It exist in two forms amorphous or crystalline. The crystalline forms is also known as quartz crystal. Quartz crystal can thus be described as a network of interconnected SiO4 molecules.
