What are the hygroscopic salts released during the process of transpiration ?

Dear Student,

Hygroscopy refers to the retaining and holding water from surrounding atmosphere. Those, that perform this specified task, are known as hygroscopic molecules/salts. In plants during transpiration, certain amount of water gets absorbed by these salts. Some of the common hygroscopic salts found are Nacl, (NH4)2SO4 etc.  One of the lesser known functions of the hygroscopic salts is that they support the stomatal entry/penetration of various substances, mainly glyphosate.
