In the story Mother's Day, Mrs Pearson and Mrs Fitzgerald had two contrasting characters. She is in her forties. She is worried looking pleasant woman. Mrs Fitzerald is older and heavier. Mrs Fitzerald is a strong and dominating women while Mrs Pearson is timid. They have highly contrasting voices. Mrs Pearson speaks in a light voice and Mrs Fitzerald has a deep voice.

Mrs Fitzerland advices mrs pearson that she must be the mistress of her house and boss of her family. Mrs Pearson replies that it is easier said than done. Mrs Pearson loves her husband and children even if the are 'thoughtless and selfish'. It is a difficult situation to annoy them and she does not know how to tackle them.
