What difference do you find in the attitude and approach of Mrs.S and narrator towards others (specially Mrs. Dorling)?

Dear student,

Mrs. S was a simple lady, who could not judge Mrs. Dorlings properly. She had complete faith in her and had hence, left her precious belongings with her during the war. She believed that when her daughter would return to Mrs. Dorlings to claim their belongings, she would welcome her pleasantly and return her the things in proper condition. However, this did not happen. Mrs. Dorlings had not cared for the belongings and when the narrator had gone to claim them, she behaved rather coldly.

The narrator on the other hand was more rational and did not trust anybody blindly. She understood that Mrs. Dorlings was least bothered about the trust that the narrator's mother had invested in her while leaving her belongings with Mrs. Dorlings. The narrator saw her mother's belongings in a very bad state and she was very disappointed. The condition of the things only brought her pain and hence, she resolved to forget the address. This tells us that the narrator unlike her mother was not really fond of Mrs. Dorlings.
