What do you mean by reproduction? Describe various modes of reproduction.

Solution:

The process by which living organisms produce offspring or young ones of their own kind is called reproduction. The two modes of reproduction are- asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction.  

• Asexual reproduction involves the participation of a single parent. This mode of reproduction does not involve formation of gametes. It includes types of vegetative propagation and asexual spore formation. For example, Vegetative propagation, is a mode of asexual reproduction in plants where the vegetative parts such as roots, leaves, stems, etc. are used to propagate the plants
• Reproduction which involves two mating types- male and female is called sexual reproduction. Gametes are formed that fuse to form zygote. For example, reproduction in flowering plants and humans.
