What does the line 'Threatening ourselves with death' mean in the poem Keeping Quiet?

Man 'threatens himself with death' due to his own rash decisions and hasty actions. He has created disasters for himself. The poet advocates that man take some time to rest and introspect instead of hurrying on in his harmful activities.
