The narrator tells the Shasthri that Ranga wanted to clarify something and suggested that they put the 'science of astrology' to test. The Shastri replies by saying that astrology is an ancient science, and that there is a story to it. He says this in order to validate the practise of astrology and to exaggerate its effect on people. But he quickly refrains from explaining the story, saying that the explanation behind astrology is quite long, and Ranga and the narrator might get bored listen to it.
