What happened when the hailstorm came? How did it affect lencho?

When the hailstorm arrived,Lencho's corn crops were destroyed completely....the plants had lost all their flowers and trees had lost all their leaves.The field looked like it was covered with salt.

Lencho felt really sad after he had a look at his crops and felt that a plague of locusts would've left more than that.But,his faith in god made him write a letter to god asking for a hundred pesos.
