What happens to the people in high altitude? How is it overcome? Passive smoking is much harmful than habitual smoking. Justify the statement.

Dear student,
At high altitudes, there is a low atmospheric pressure which makes it difficult for the oxygen to enter in our vascular systems. This results in a condition called as Hypoxia. Hypoxia is the condition of deprivation of oxygen which leads to the difficulty in performing normal physical activities. It leads to high altitude sickness. It shows the following symptoms like lack of appetite, vomiting, headache, nausea etc. In serious cases, it may also lead to pulmonary and cerebral edemas.

It is overcome by initially developing a physiological response to an increase in breathing and heart rate. Pulse rate and blood pressure increase sharply. After some time, an efficient system develops called as acclimatization. In this process, more red blood cells are produced which carry more oxygen.
