A lightning conductor is a device used to protect a building from d effects of lightning . A good lightning conductor is made of copper ( copper is d best conductor of electricity ) . The copper rod isinstalled in d building during its construction . It is taller than d building . Its upper end is at d highest point of the building and its lower end is buried under d earth in a copper plate . When d lightning strikes copper rod , it passes through the rod and goes into d earth , without harming d building from d effects of lightning .
