what is a movement why does the environmental movement fall under this category

Dear  Student,

Any movement is informal and not an organized group  in which people attempt to bring about a change in the social order. People involved in movements resort to dharnas, protests, processions .They seek to influence the government and party in power. In a movement we see a sudden sporadic participation by the people.

There are single issue movements and multiple issue movements

Single issue movement: These movements seek to achieve a specific aim, a single objective within a specific time
Example:  Narmada Bachao Andolan

Multiple issue movement: These movements seeks to attain a broad aim within a longer time frame.Such movements are generally flexible, with loose organizational structure , independent leadership. They generally have contrasting views on different issues. There is no single organization guiding or controlling them since more organizations are involved. For example, Environmental movements

Environmental movements touch upon varied issues , like environmental degradation, displacement, water dispute etc.Further they aspire to bring about a change and make the system more responsive to their needs.
