Dear Student,
The pericarp is the tissue that arises from the ovary wall of the flower which surrounds the seed to protect it from the outer environment other than the parent's plant.in fleshy fruits it is can be divided into three layers as following-:
1.EPICARP- it is the outermost layer of the pericarp. It forms the hard outer layer of the fruit.
2. MESOCARP-it the middle layer of the pericarp. It is the most fleshy part. usually, it is the part which is eaten. It is between epicarp and endocarp. Example - the edible part of the mango is mesocarp.
3.ENDOCARP- It is the innermost part of the pericarp. It may be edible as in citrus or may be hard in the stone fruits. It directly covers the seed.
