what is difference b/w tropic and nastic movements in plants ? plzzz ans it fast.

TROPIC MOVEMENT  OF PLANTS REFER TO GROWTH OF PART OF PLANT IN RESPONSE TO EXTERNAL STIMULAS .DIRECTION OF STIMULUS=DIRECTION OF RESPONSE

NASTIC MOVEMENT REFERS THE MOVEMENT OF PLANT IN RESPONSE TO STIMULUS BUT THE DRCTION IS NOT DETERMINED BY DIRECTION OF STIMULUS.

hope u understand it...........

1)a. the non directional movements in response to external stimuli that involve turgour changes is called nastic movements. b. the directional movements due to different growths that occur in response to external stimuli are known as tropic movements.

2)a.the response to the stimulus is quick as it does not involve any growth. b.the response of the stimulus is slow as it involves growth.

3)a.such non directional  movements are independent of the stimulus. b. in these movements, the direction of movement depends upon direction of stimulus.

3)a. these movements are of many types depending on the types of stimulus like photonasty & thigmonasty. b. there are many types of tropic movements depending on the types of stimulus.the response is either :-  +ve - towards stimulus or -ve - away from stimulus like phototropism, geotropism, hydrotropism & chemotropism.

4)a. changes are temporary. b. changes are permanent

5)a. ex. dandelion, Mimosa pudica. b. pollination in plants............. hope it'll help you to understand this topic....:)

NASTIC MOVEMENT: i) it is neither towards nor away from stimulus.

ii) this movement is not directional.

iii) this movement is of short period.

iv) once the stimulus is given movement can be seen.

v) growth does not take place.

eg.dandelion,

TROPIC MOVEMENT: i) it is either towards or away from the stimulus.

ii) this movement is directional.

iii) this movement take long time.

iv) continous/sourse is needed.

v) growth takes place.

eg. photropism, geotropism, hydrotropism ,etc.

Tropic movement or Tropism : The movement or growth of a plant or plant part towards the direction of a stimulus.
Nastic Movement : the movement or growth of a plant or it part that is neither towards nor aways from stimulus.

Tropic movement is caused due to any kind of stimulus but tactic movement can be caused in presence or absence of stimulus.tropic movement direction depends upon tne stimulus .tactic movement is not directional

Tropic: Slow response, Directional, Growth takes place.
Nastic: Quick response, Non- Directional, Growth does not take place.

Tropic movement-those movement which is due to unilateral stimules.which causes unequal growth of the two sides of stem roots and tandril. Eg.phototropic
Nastic movement- this movement is due to stimules of light and temperature.
Eg.opening and closing of flowers in morning and evening

"Nastic movements are non-directional responses to stimuli (e.g. temperature, humidity, light irradiance). The movement can be due to changes in turgor or changes in growth. Nastic movements differ from tropic movements in that the direction of tropic responses depends on the direction of the stimulus, whereas the direction of nastic movements is independent of the stimulus. The rate or frequency of these responses increases as the intensity of the stimulus increases. An example of such a response is the opening and closing of flowers (photonastic response). Nastic responses are usually associated with plants." Tropism Movement: "A tropism is a biological phenomenon, indicating growth or turning movement of a biological organism, usually a plant, in response to an environmental stimulus. In tropisms, this response is dependent on the direction of the stimulus (as opposed to nastic movements which are non-directional responses). Viruses and other pathogens also affect what is called "host tropism" or "cell tropism" in which case tropism refers to the way in which different viruses/pathogens have evolved to preferentially target specific host species or specific cell types within those species. The word tropism comes from the Greek trope ("to turn" or "to change"). Tropisms are usually named for the stimulus involved (for example, a phototropism is a reaction to light) and may be either positive (towards the stimulus) or negative (away from the stimulus).

→Nastic movements are non directional responses to stimuli such as temperature and heat.
→The most important feature of this type of movement is that movements are not governed by the direction of the stimulus.
→They may be induced by touch (seismonastic), temperature (Thermonastic), light, and chemicals.
→Whatever be the direction of stimulus, the movements always occur in a particular direction without reference to the direction of the stimulus
→Example of seismonastic movement is movement of Venus fly trap.

→Tropic movement is the response to stimuli that comes from one direction.
→ It is a directional movement.
→If the movement of the plant part is towards the stimulus, then it is known as positive tropism . If the movement of the plant part is away from the stimulus, then it is known as negative tropism .
→For example phototropism, Geotropism etc.

Nastic: #occur due to change in turgor pressure in the cells .#other name is nasties.#they take place in assemetric or flat organs.#rapid and reversible.# are not directional. #are paratonic movements of variatons. Tropic:#occur due to cell division.# other name is tropism.#they take place in cylindrical organs.#slow and irreversible.#are directional.#are paratonic movements of growth.

Tropic
1.Non directional response to stimuli
2.Independant on growth of plant

Mastic
1.Directional response to stimuli
2.Dependant on growth of plant

*Tropic movement-
Is a directional movement.
And shows growth.
These are of five types :
Geotropism.
Hydrotropism.
Phototropism.
Chemotropism.
Thigmotropism.
*Nastic movement -
Non-directional movement.
Shows no growth.
These are of two types:
Thigmonasty.
Photonasty.

The movement of a plant organ towards the source of the stimulus or the movement of the stimulus is called tropic movement.& When the movement of a plant organ is controlled not by the direction of the stimulus but by the intensity of the stimulus, then that type of movement is called a nastic movement.
