what is difference between xylem and phloem?

Hi Dona,

Both xylem and phloem are types of vascular tissue that help in the transportation of substances in plants. The vascular tissue that transports water and minerals in plants is known as the xylem. It forms a network of channels that connects the root to the stem and the leaves of the plant. Phloem transports food prepared in the leaves to the other parts of the plant.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!!

Sorryma'am,  I didnt understand you.

xylem absorbs water and minerals.xylem transports water and minerals in only upwards direction. Phloem transports food from leaves to all the parts of the plants, it goes in both in up and down direction.

xylem transports water that is absorbed by the roots and transports it to all parts of the plant. In the same way phloem transports food that is prepared by the leaves during photosynthesis and transport it to all parts of the plant.

A xylem transports water and minerals to parts of plant.

And a pholem transports food prepared by the leavesto other parts of the plants.

xylem

  • this tissue helps to carry water and dissolved minerals to the various parts of the plant
  • it is in the center of the stem and is surrounded by the phloem
  • it supports only one-way movement tthat is upwards
  • this tissue helps in transpiration

phloem

  • this tissue helps to carry prepared food from the leaf to the various parts of the plant
  • it is present on the sides inside the stem and surrounds the xylem
  • it allows two-way movement that is both upwards and downwards
  • this supports the process of translocation

I WAS GOING TO ASK THE SAME QUESTION

THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU !!

1]xylem conducts water and minerals while thr pholem conducts food

2]xylem consists of dead cells whereas the phloem consists of living cells
