WHAT IS GLOTTIS AND EPIGLOTTIS

the pharynx is a short vertical tube located in the head back of the buccal cavity.It provide passage into which the internal nares  and buccal cavity both open 2 pass the air in2 it .

The pharnyx provide passage in2 trachea or wind pipe through a silt aperture called glottiss.Glottis always remain open accept during swalloing.  The glottis bears a leaf like cartilaginous flap called epiglottis .

during swalling epiglottis closes the glottis to check the entry of food into it. entry of food in respiratory track can be fatal

Glottis: - Larynx opens into pharynx by means of a slit like aperture known a glottis, it can be closed and opened by its own muscles.

Epiglottis:-  Glottis is guarded by a flap of tissue called the epiglottis, it projects obliquely upwards into the pharynx behind the tongue. During swallowing the  epiglottis closes the glottis to check the entry of the food into it.
