what is hydrogen bonding???

Solution-

Hydrogen bonding can be defined as an attractive force in which a hydrogen atom of one molecule is attracted to an electronegative atom such as oxygen, nitrogen or fluorine of another molecule.

Let us understand this better with the help of examples:
Consider the case of water. Here, different molecules of water are linked by hydrogen bonds.

Hydrogen bonding is of two types. These are as follow:

1.  Intermolecular hydrogen bonding: This type of hydrogen bonding takes place between different molecules of same compound or different compounds. For example hydrogen bonds between the molecules of ammonia.

2.  Intramolecular hydrogen bonding: This type of hydrogen bonding takes place between hydrogen and electronegative atom present within the same molecule. For example, in o-nitrophenol, intramolecular hydrogen bonding takes place between hydrogen of  – OH group and oxygen of nitro group.
