What is meant by overloading of an electrical circuit ? Explain two possible causes due to which overloading may occur in household circuit ? Explain one precaution that should be taken to avoid the overloading of domestic electric circuit.

Overloading happens when an excessive amount of electric current passes through the wire and excessive heating takes place.

2 ways by which this happens

1) Live and neutral wires come in contact with each other: The resistance becomes close to zero in such a situation and the potential difference suddenly rises to 220 V. Excessive heating takes place.(Also the cause for short circuit)

2) Connecting too many appliances to a single socket: Againexcessive current flows and excessive heating takes place.

Preventive measures

1) Proper insulation

2) Not connecting too many appliances to a single socket.

When many  power rated appliances are connected to a single socket, then the socket tends to draw enormous  current ... that leads to supply of large amount of current . this is overloading.

it occurs when live wire and neutral wire together come in contact

It can prevented by :

connecting fuse in domestic circuit that prevents overloading.
