what is organic matter and inorganic matter in soil

  • Soil, Organic matter means something that is alive or was once alive. Example: leaves and animals. If they are dead, they can still be called organic. Organic matter is an important part of soil because it adds nutrients and improves the texture. Organic matter consists of plants and animals wastes. Example- onion peel, cow dung, green manure, compost etc. It also contains living creatures like earthworm,fungus, bacteria etc that makes the soil healthy. This important organic matter makes up only a small fraction of the total materials in soil.

 

  • Soil Inorganic matter means something that was never alive.The inorganic materials found in soils account for about half of the total mass of most soil. These inorganic materials take the form of sand, silt and clay, and are referred to commonly as dirt.
