What is proto cooperation?Explain with example.

Dear student,

Protocooperation is a type of interaction between individuals of two different species in which both the partners are benefited. This relationship is not necessary for the survival of either of these organisms as both the organisms can live separately.
For example,Yellow billed ox-pecker eats ticks, mites or lice growing on the skin of rhinoceros.

Protocooperation is where two species interact with each other beneficially; they have no need to interact with each other - they interact purely for the gain that they receive from doing this. It is not at all necessary for protocooperation to occur; growth and survival is possible in the absence of the interaction. Eg- spur-winged plover, hermit crab, etc
