What is redaction

Dear Students,

Reduction can be defined as the process of removal of oxygen or addition of hydrogen to a chemical substance. For example, consider the following reaction

In the above reaction, copper oxide is losing oxygen. Thus, CuO is getting reduced to Cu.

In grade 11, you will study that reduction can be defined in terms of gain of electrons. The substance which gains electrons is said to undergo reduction.
