What is saprotrophic mode of nutrition and what are saprotrophs? Give answer in detail.

Saprotrophic nutrition is a mode of nutrition in which the organisms feed upon dead and decaying plants and animals.

Organisms which follow this mode of nutrition are known as saprotrophs. For example: Mushrooms.

Saprotrophic nutrition is that nutrition in which an organism obtains its food from decaying organic matter of dead plants, dead animals and rotten bread, etc. 'Sapro' means 'rotten', so a saprotrophic organism draws its food from rotting wood of dead and decaying trees, rotten leaves, dead animals and household wastes like rotten bread, etc.

The organisms having saprotrophic mode of nutrition are called saprophytes.Saprotrophic nutrition is that nutrition in which an organism obtains its food from decaying organic matter of dead plants, dead animals and rotten bread, etc. 'Sapro' means 'rotten', so a saprotrophic organism draws its food from rotting wood of dead and decaying trees, rotten leaves, dead animals and household wastes like rotten bread, etc.

The organisms having saprotrophic mode of nutrition are called saprophytes.A Saprotroph (or Saprobe) is an organism that gets its energy from non-living organic matter. This may be decaying pieces of plants oranimals. This means that saprobes are heterotrophs. They are consumers in the food chain. Many fungi are saprobes. This is also true for many bacteria and protozoa. To put it simply, most dead organic matter is eventually broken down and used by bacteria and fungi. It i(s) (a) heterotroph because it (l)i(k)es t(o) search for its own food and is therefore a consumer.

There is also an older name, Saprophyte for these kinds of organisms.

A different mode of nutrition exists in fungi. Fungi feed on dead and decaying matter by secreting digestive juices on them and converting the matter into a solution. They absorb the nutrients from this solution. This mode of nutrition is known as saprotrophic mode of nutrition. Organisms which follow this mode of nutrition are known as saprotrophs.

Some plants obtain their nutrition from decaying organic matter. They secrete digestive juices onto dead and decaying matter, and then absorb the nutrients from it.
This mode of nutrition is called saprtorophic nutrition

Plants that use the saprotrophic mode of nutrition are called saprotrophs

Heterotrophs that feed themselves on dead and decomposed bodies of living things are called saprotrophic mode of nutrition .Mushrooms and moulds are examples of saprotrophic nutrition .They grow on decaying vegetable matter and are  commonly found sprouting from the layer of dead leaves or the forest floor .

 Hope it helps

Some non-green plants live on dead and decaying plants and animals, and derive their food from them. Examples are mushrooms and other fungi, and bacteria. They secrete digestive juices on the dead and decaying matter. This converts the solid matter into a liquid . They then absorb the nutrients from this liquid . This method of getting nutrients from dead and decaying matter in the form of liquid is known as SAPROTROPHIC NUTRITION.

Fungi and bacteria that use this mode of nutrition are known as SAPROTROPHS or SAPROPHYTES.

SAPROTROPHIC NUTRITION- The mode of nutrition in which organisms take in nutrients in the form of solution from dead and decaying matter.

SAPROTROPHS- Oganisms which live together on other living organisms for food and shelter.
