what is secularism? why is India called a secular state
Secularism means showing due respect to all the religions.
- India is called a secular state because there is no official religion of the state.
- No discrimination is ever made against any individual because of his or her religion.
- All the citizens of India, forming different groups, sects, communities are free to practice any religion they like unless it is not detrimental to the peace, security and integrity of the country.
- There is a rule of law before which everybody is equal irrespective of religion, caste, creed, colour and socio-economic background.
