What is shia and sunni?
Dear Student,
Shia and Sunni Islam are the two major denominations of Islam. The differences occurred between them on the basis of successor of Prophet Muhammad. The majority who believed that Prophet Muhammad rightful successor was his father-in-law and close friend Abu Bakr were called Sunni and the minority who believed the Prophet Muhammad's successor should be Ali ibn Abi Talib were called Shia. Shia give utmost importance to Ali whom Sunni's do not recognise as being the Prophet's rightful successor.
Regards
