what is the advantages and disadvantages of soap and detergents

@ krishang,

Good answer! You have given absolutely correct advantages over detergents. Keep it up!

I would like to explain more advantages and disadvantages of soaps and detergents as follow:

Advantage of soap:

Soaps are made from natural fats and oils and so are fully biodegradable so it does not cause any water pollution.

Disadvantage of soap:

Soaps cannot be used in hard water. This is because, soap forms a scum in hard water and this scum will not rinse away easily. So soap is suitable only for soft water.

Advantages of detergent:

Detergents are often preferred over soap as they are more effective at cleaning and have a wider range of uses. Detergents can be used in hard water also because they react less to minerals in water and do not leave any residue.

Disadvantage of detergent:

Detergents are made from synthetic chemicals. These chemicals do not break down in the environment (non-biodegradable), and so they cause huge amount of pollution in water bodies- killing fish and water plants.
