Whenever an object is partially or completely immersed in fluid, it feels lighter. The object when immersed in fluid, some water is displaced and the object experiences a buoyant force. This buoyant force is equal to the weight of fluid displaced.

Apparent weight of the object in water  =  weight of object in air - buoyant force experienced by the object
