what is the difference between condensation and addition polymerisation ???? and how iz nylon 6,6 formed ???
Addition and condensation polymers can be distinguished as follows.
| Addition polymer |
| Condensation polymer |
(i) | It is formed when the monomer units are repeatedly added to form long chains. | (i) | It is formed when two or more monomer units react together. |
(ii) | No elimination of any by-product takes place. | (ii) | Elimination of simple compounds such as H2O, R–OH takes place. |
(iii) | For example: Polythene is an addition polymer of ethylene. | (iii) | For example: Nylon (6, 6) is a condensation polymer obtained from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid. |
Example is:-Nylon 6,6 is formed by the polymerisation reaction of hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid.
