What is the difference between polycistronic and monocistronic ?

As we know the mRNA codes for specific protein. Polycistronic mRNA is present in prokaryotes and it contain many reading frames that codes for multiple proteins. Polycistronic mRNA is essential for prokaryotes as their genome is small.

Monocistronic mRNA occurs in eukaryotes in which single reading frame in mRNA codes for single polypeptide. Eukaryotes can afford monocistronic genes as their genome is quite large.
