what is the requirement of energy for the formation of ammonia by nitrogenase enzyme?

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Nitrogenase enzyme acts as a catalyst in the formation of ammonia and lowers the activation energy (energy required to start a reaction) of the reaction. It possess two types of proteins- Fe protein and MoFe protein. Fe protein helps in transfer of electrons from ferredoxin or flavodoxins (reducing agents) to MoFeprotein. This process requires energy.
The energy requirement is 8ATPs per NH3 molecule. The net reaction catalysed by nitrogen synthase is:
N2 + 8H+ + 8e- + 16 ATP ----> 2NH3 + H2 + 16ADP + 16 Pi
