What was happening to the tribal people under the British

​​​​​​Under British following was happening to tribal people:
1. Functions and powers of tribal chiefs changed. They lost much of their administrative power and were forced to follow laws made by British officials in India.They also had to pay tribute to British.
2. Life of tribal people was connected with forests and British extended their rule to forests and declared forests as their property.
3. Tribal people were not allowed to enter in forests and practise cultivation there.
4. Tribal people have to go far away from home to search for work. They got work in tea plantation of Assam but were paid very low wages and ill treated.
5. ​​​​​​The local people were charged with heavy taxes which overburdened tribals life.
