what will happen if the backbone had only one long bone instead of many vertebrae
If our backbone had only one bone instead of many vertebrae then:
- There are gliding joints in between the vertebrae which help us to move and bend our back. These vertebra slide on each other and help us twist or bend our back.
- Due to these joints between vertebrae we are able to bend and twist our backs.
- If there will be only a single bone then the backbone will not have any joints and thus we would not be able to move our back.

Vertebral column is a long, rod like structure running from the neck to the hips. If Vertebral Column was a single bone:-
a. We will not be able to bend our back. the vertebral column has gliding joints between its vertebra which allow us to bend easily. Now if the vertebral column is a single bone, we will not be able to bend

If we had only one long bone instead of many vertebrae it would not be flexible as it is we would not able to bend or do other kind of activities with a single long bone we can't bend our backbone upwards or downwards so the posture of our backbone would be straight like we sit

You are able to bend because your backbone is not a single bone there are many more bones which help the one long straight bone to move and their many muscles are also which help them to bend and to do actions if you do not have any more bones with your long bone of the back you will not be able to bend at all and not be able to do exercise related to back and only you can move with your legs and what only you will not be able to do any work except walking

If our backbone would be made up of only one bone then we would not be able to move our backbone as it would have no joint and would be just 1 long bone. The backbone is made up of many small bones so that we are able to bend out backbone.
If our backbone could not bend then we could not, sit, walk, run or bend.
Hope this helps you!
