what would be the impact on food chain if numbers of organisms of a particular tropic level change( increase or decrease)

Dear student,;
Please find below the answer:

Various trophic levels are connected through the food chains. If the organisms of any one trophic level are increased or decreased, it will disrupt the entire food chain.

For example, in a food chain, if the no. of plants are decreased, then all the deer will die due to lack of food. If the population of deer decreases, then soon the tigers will also die. Due to the death of these animals, the decomposer’s population will rise in that area.

An increase in the population of organisms at various trophic levels will not have any huge impact on the food chain.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.

Food chain a sequence of the living organisms in which the nutrients and the energy pass from one organism to the other organism when they eat them.

Food chain involves different trophic levels which consist of primary producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers and tertiary consumers.

Let us take examples of the organisms to explain the effects of the ecosystem if one of the trophic level is missed.

Let us consider grass as a primary producer, sheep as a primary consumer, tiger as a secondary consumer and eagle as tertiary consumers.

Here let us assume grass as a primary producer is been dried up, so the sheep would not get any food as it totally depends upon the grass, so due to this secondary and the tertiary consumers will also be starved, which in turn effects the ecosystem
