Where is adrenal gland located? WRITE the two function of the hormones secreted by adrenal gland

Dear student,

The adrenal gland is situated at the anterior to each kidney. It has two parts i.e., adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla, both parts secrete different hormones of different functions.

1) Aldosterone hormone - It is a mineralocorticoid, secreted by the adrenal cortex.
Function - It senses the concentration of sodium ion in the blood plasma and thus, regulate the salt and water balance.

2) Epinephrine - It is a hormone, secreted by the adrenal medulla.
Function - It takes action on the sympathetic nervous system and increases the rate of heartbeat, respiration, metabolism. It is known as the hormone of 3F i.e., fight, flight and fright.
