Where thalamus is located? What are it function?

Dear student,

Thalamus is a paired symmetrical structure situated between cerebral cortex and midbrain of a vertebrate including human. It is a large mass of grey matter which conveys sensory nerve impulses to the cerebral cortex.Function of thalamus in the brain is to process and relay movement and sensory information. Other function is to regulate the sleeping and wakefulness states.
