Which metals forms a green coating? Does aluminum do the same?

Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the query posted by you.

Copper metal reacts with carbon dioxide and water vapour present in the air to form basic copper carbonate (CuCO3.Cu(OH)2). It appears as a green coat over the surface of the metal.

Aluminium forms a protective coating of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) over its surface on coming in contact with atmospheric oxygen. It is not green in colour.

Hope this information will clear your doubt regarding corrosion of metals.
