What we are taught in schools may not always be accurate information. Most people are taught to believe that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. He did not invent the light bulb; he invented what we know and use today, which was an improvement to previous inventions of electrical lighting.
The actual inventor of the very first electric lighting was by Humphry Davy. In 1809, he invented the original source of electrical lighting using two wires, a charcoal strip, and a battery.

Though Thomas Edison is usually credited as the man who invented the lightbulb, the famous American inventor wasn't the only one who contributed to the development of this revolutionary technology.
