Why are solar cookers covered by a glass plate?

 Greenhouse effect:  This effect results in the heating of enclosed spaces into which the sun shines through a transparent material such as glass or plastic. Visible light easily passes through the glass and is absorbed and reflected by materials within the enclosed space. 

The light energy that is absorbed by dark pots and the dark absorber plate underneath the pots is converted into longer wavelength heat energy and radiates from the interior materials. Most of this radiant energy, because it is of a longer wavelength, cannot pass back out through the glass and is therefore trapped within the enclosed space.

When sunlight falls over the solar cooker top, the sun rays pass through the glass sheet cover and get absorbed inside the cooker box.
This glass sheet covers does not allow the solar energy to flow out in the form of radiant heat.Thus it traps more and more heat rays of the sun thereby producing green house effect.That is why glass lid is used in the solar cooker.

Glass covers function to trap the heta radiations inside the box.
Heat radiations once inside the box, will be absorbed by the content inside the box. The same radiations are reradiated in longer wavelengths, which fail to get refracted out of the glass cover.
 
Subsqeuently, the heat radiations get trapped inside the box & hence the temperature rise inside the box.

glass slab also blocks the entry of air from outside of solar cooker. it also helps to maintain high temperature inside the cooker.

The glass plate covering helps covering helps in retention of heat inside the solar cooker on account of greenhouse effect . As a result, inside temperature is higher and maintained constant.

because when the glass was not coverd the rays pass through the glass, that's why we covered by a glass.

use of Glass plate because it allows shorter infrared radiations to pass through it but doesn't allow the longer wavelength infrared radiations to through it that results in increase in temperature

when solar cooker falls on the glass the black colour absorbs more heat and within 5 or 10 minutes it will cook
