Why are the women who fought for our freedom struggle less popular

Dear Student,

Women played a vital role in the Indian freedom struggle. One of the forerunners of India’s struggle for freedom was Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, who became a renowned figure  in the history of Indian nationalism. Again Annie Besant and Sarojini Naidu were remarkable names in Indian history. Annie Besant advocated emancipation of Indian women. In fact, many Indian women joined her Home Rule Movement. She considered child marriage to be a social evil and wanted its removal from the Indian society. Similarly, Sarojini Naidu worked as an active politician and freedom fighter. She even fought for women suffrage, joined non-cooperation movement, and campaigned with Gandhiji in  Civil Disobedience Movement.

A number of other women activists also gained importance  were Kamaladevi Ghattopadhyaya, Kalpana Dutt, and Madame Bikaji Cama. This is not true to say that they are less popular but yes they were very few in numbers so it is not posssible to name them everywhere in the history.

Regards.
