Why are we left only with only tiny fraction of water for use even if about 75+ of the earth's surface is covered with water?

Dear Student,

It is true that the Earth is covered with more than 75% of water but, it is not usable as it contains more amount of salts. Therefore, this form of water is not usable and drinkable. Hence, can not be used for any purpose.  While, only 3% is fresh water and used for varied purposes (drinking etc.). Thus, in spite of having that much amount of water, still we need to conserve water and water judiciously.
