why did albert see no points in learning dates and facts?

albert einstein was an extraordinary student. he didn't believed in learning without understanding. he couldn't compromise with the education systen of mugging up each and everything. the history teacher wasn't able to convince him about the impotance of his subject as einstein thought that there wasn't any need to leard the dates as whenever we wanted to know them we could just open the book.
