Why did the the rebels declare Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was very old and powerless, their leader ??? Experts please help

the rebels declared Bahadur Shah Zafar as their leader because nobody was ready to become the leader of the revolt of 1857 and there was no one to lead all the state rather than Bahadur Shah Zafar

BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR HAD NO SPECIAL POWERS WHEN BRITISH CAME TO RULE INDIA.SO WHEN THE SEPOYS WENT TO HIM HE WAS ALSO MOTIVATED AND FELT HAPPY THAT THE SEPOYS ARE MAKING HIM AS THE LEADER AND GIVING HIM RESPECT.

BECAUSE THE REBELS WANTED MUGHAL DYNASTY TO COME AGAIN IN ACTION. AFTER THE DEATH OF AURANGZEB BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR WAS LEFT. WHEN THE REBELS WENT TO RED FORT EARLIER HE REFUSE T DO  SO BUT THEN AGREED

Basically because no one was ready to be the leader and also help them, some were openly hostile to them and helped the British to suppress the revolt.

Basically because no rebels were ready to become the leader, also for guiding them, instead some of the rebels were openly hostile to them and helped the British to suppress the revolt, many of them were worried about their own kingdoms. So they had to choose Bahadur Shah Zafar though he was not a very good leader.

Because there was no indian king left at the time when sepoys asked him. He was only the last ruler of a MUGHAL dynasty

Because he was the only option left...he had no terretories...he thought he was being give respect

The rebels declared Bahadur Shah Zafar as their leader because they wanted an Indian king to lead them and they had no choice.

Bahadur Shah Zafar was asked to be their leader because he was the only Indian and Mughal ruler; this was also because nobody was ready to face off the Britishers being a leader ( well after knowing what happened to Mangal Pandey)
The Mughal dynasty had ruled over a very large part of the country. Most smaller rulers and chieftains controlled different territories on behalf of the Mughal ruler. Threatened by the expansion of British rule again, they too would be able to rule their own territories once more, under Mughal authority
