why do farmers carry out levelling of the ploughed field

Dear student.

Levelling:   The crumbs formed during ploughing are broken by a wooden plank. This process is called levelling. Levelling is done with the help of a wooden-leveller, or a wooden plank attached to a tractor. Fields must be levelled properly before sowing and irrigation.

Levelling is important because:
1. For uniform distribution of water.
2. Prevents soil from being blown away.

It is beacause after ploughing, big pieces of soil are there in the soil. So, to break those pieces into fine particles of soil, levelling is done. This helps the crops to grow easily.

Farmland is ploughed before sowing the seeds as it allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. It maintains the air circulation in the soil. The loosened soil helps in the growth of earthworms and microbes. These organisms further loosen the soil and add humus to it.
