Why do Scandinavian sports ice free during winter

Dear student

Scandinavians go normally about their lives, but the days are short in winter as they are long in the summer. The northern parts of Norway and Sweden are inside the arctic circle and there’s essentially darkness (well, twilight) through much of the season.

In the country of Denmark, temperatures are far more temperate than most people suspect. This is true for parts of Sweden and southern Norway as well.

Unless they are into outside winter sports like skiing, people tend to stay inside and visit with friends or family, maybe go to a bar or the theatre. Around Christmastime there’s often Christmas-associated activities (festivals, shopping, things for kids, Christmas lunches for work/school, etc.)
