Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

J. B. Priestley in Mother's Day employs magic realism to articulate the need for a woman to be self - reliant and assertive. Magic realism allows the author to use fantastical or supernatural elements in a realistic setting/plot. Priestly with the use of magic realism to state an idea which normally his society will never accept- independence and individual will to the woman. Predominantly, the play highlights the status of women in a patriarchal society. Mrs. Pearson is more of a slave than a member of her family. When she swaps her identity, body and personality with Mrs. Fitzgerald, she is allowed to elucidate her will and independence which was denied to her. The writer makes the impossible, possible. It allows the mother to regain her importance and status in her family. Her work is valued and in turn she becomes someone of worth.
