Why does artrial systole always precede ventricular systole?

Systole is the phase in the cardiac cycle in which contraction occurs. It results in the ejection of blood to the adjacent vessel. Atrial systole precedes the ventricular systole because during atrial systole both the left and right atria contracts and only the final bolus of blood moves forward and enters the ventricles for ventricular systole.
