Why does the author of ‘Journey to the End of the Earth’ state that in 12000 years man has managed to create a ruckus on this earth?

Dear Student,

Nature is well endowed with resources. The judicious use of natural resources is essential for maintaining stability in the Earth's ecosystem. However, human -beings in their efforts to achieve rapid development have exploited natural resources indiscriminately. Rapid industrialization, urbanization, commercialization, etc. has disturbed the balance of Earth's ecosystem. Instead of adopting practices of sustainable development, man's greed has created problems of global warming, ozone layer depletion, deforestation, species extinction, etc. The pristineness of nature's ecosystem has been destroyed. Thus in the 12000 years, that man has lived on this planet, it has managed to create a ruckus on this earth.
