Why does the batter rise when yeast is added ? Please relate the answer to respiration. ( Life Processes - Class 10 ) Thank you !

Dear Student,

This happen due to the process of fermentation. As yeasts belong to a group of simple organisms known as fungi, which exist almost everywhere in nature, including the air. Yeasts reproduce rapidly, and they grow especially well in substances containing sugar.

Hope this answer clears your doubt.

The gas, which is pinned in the pet, increases; during fermentation, the alcohol created by the baking process evaporates. This means that when you add yeast to your batter, it increases as carbon dioxide is released by anaerobic breathing by rapidly reproducing yeast.
