why does the moon have craters?

there is a giant rabbit living on the moon

and when ever it hops it creates such a force that the surface of the moon

gets big round depressions in it

but in all seriousness

the atmosphere of the moon unlike earth is very thin and weak thus allowing astroids to collide with it

and the collision forms craters on the moon
