Why does the rattrap seller not reveal his true identity to the Willmansson family?
(3 Marks)

Dear Student,

'The Rattrap' is a story about a peddler who sells rattraps for a living. As he was poor and homeless, he had to search for a shelter every night. One day, after spending the night at the crofter's house, the peddler stole his money and ran away. While he was hiding in the forge, an ironmaster mistook him for an old friend and invited him to his house. Even though the poor peddler rejected the offer for the fear of being caught, he was tempted by the idea of hot food and a place to spend the night, so he went along with the ironmaster. The next morning, after the peddler shaved and took a shower, the ironmaster soon realised his mistake and wanted to call the sheriff. The peddler tried to explain that it wasn't his fault but the proud ironmaster still asked him to leave.
